A 16-year-old student was arrested on charges of sexual assault and attempted murder in Thursday's attack on an Eldorado High School teacher.
Las Vegas police say they were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. Thursday to the school at 1139 N. Linn Lane, where medical personnel were found treating a woman in a classroom for multiple injuries.
School Districts Defy State Mask Mandate
The police said their investigation revealed that the student entered the classroom to discuss his grades with the teacher.
"At some point, the suspect became violent and began to beat the victim and choke her," the Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement Friday. "After the attack, the suspect fled the classroom and the victim was later found by another staff member."
Police said the teenager was arrested about a mile from the school on Cedar Avenue and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of attempted murder, sexual assault, sexual assault, kidnapping and robbery. .
"I am devastated and the CCSD family is grieving for the teacher who was attacked at Eldorado High School," Clark County School District Superintendent Jesus Jara wrote in an email to staff Friday afternoon. Watts said she saw an ambulance on campus after school Thursday and learned about the sexual assault through social media.
