Another big update is shaking up the world of the Elden Ring, and this time FromSoftware is calibrating the changes differently depending on whether you're playing the main game or playing against strangers in PVP. This addresses a longtime fan request to balance the two parts of the game separately, and just in time for new clues about the upcoming expansion to be unearthed recently.

Patch 1.07 was released early Thursday, and the biggest change is that it added a separate damage meter for PvP. FromSoftware wrote "This feature allows the damage magnitude of weapons, skills, spells, and magic to be separated when playing against other players". In the future, this feature could be used to balance weapons, arts, spells, and magic in raid/pvp mode.

What this means is that players can enjoy their broken builds while playing alone without worrying about FromSoftware dumping them to try and make things fairer in online multiplayer. This was already an issue with Rivers of Blood loadouts, which FromSoftware fixed in PVP only to piss off individual players who could no longer rely on certain methods to crack each other.

For example, patch 1.07 lowers the power of Ashes of War across the board, but only in PVP. He did the same for magics like Ekzykes's Decay and Agheel's Flame, while at the same time improving his balance damage and ability to withstand attack power. The result should be a more balanced multiplayer experience without undermining the way people enjoy the main game.

The rest of the update includes a sprawling list of changes and balance adjustments for combat weapons, magic, spells, and skills, as well as a host of bug fixes. Mage builds in particular will see a huge benefit from this patch, with a lot of abilities now costing less FP than before. A large number of moves also have faster serve times, and weapons nearly across the board now have better balance. It's good news for all those who wear Ugly Goat armor for defense, as there are now a variety of options for soul mods. However, the only thing that got decreased was the badass bending. At least the savage sword users are having a good time now. It's one of the biggest reboots the game has had in some time, and it probably sets you up for the next move.

Controller Lance McDonald reports that two new map references were discovered in the game's latest update file. He tweeted "The new maps are m20 and m45... m20 has the same numbering as the old dungeons, m45 is brand new..."

In an interview earlier this year, director Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed that more updates to the game are on the way, but didn't specify what exactly they would contain. He also stated that he had already moved on to his next project, and that the next game, FromSoftware, was thought to be possibly a new game.
